Finch is 5!
Happy 5th birthday to my Finchy boy!
June 5 was his golden birthday — he turned 5 on the 5th! And no joke, he woke up at 5:55 am and asked if he could get up because it was his birthday. Of course we said yes!
He opened all his gifts, requested donuts for breakfast (it was National Donut Day, after all) and Burger King for lunch, and in the evening we got out our pool, splash pad and bounce house for a small backyard gathering with friends. Finch declared it the “BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!”
PERSONALITY
It takes about 5 seconds after meeting Finch to know his personality. He is social and spontaneous. He loves to wrestle, cuddle and make people laugh. He is naturally generous, often sharing his candy, toys, iPad and food.
You can often hear him say, “I have an idea!” or “I love everybody in the whole wide world!” We were at a park recently and he made a new friend. When he had to leave, he told me, “I had so much fun meeting that guy!”

He has a lot of energy, but he can also watch TV or play Minecraft for hours. He loves to quote movie lines and make up silly words. He makes the best sound effects and eats the most random food combinations (the most recent being crunch berries and string cheese).
He can do the Macarena like a pro, bike six miles without complaining, and hike two miles without being carried.
I will not be surprised if he grows up to be an entertainer or a salesman, but he says he wants to be a fireman or policeman because he’s “great at running fast catching bad guys.”
GROWTH
Finch is still at the top of the charts for height and weight. He is ¼ inch taller than Rooney was at this age. His doctor predicts he will be 6’3” or 6’4” at full height, which would make him the tallest in our family! That is so bizarre to wrap my mind around.

He is a great sleeper! The best thing we did earlier this year was to start giving him 1 mg of melatonin before bedtime. He now falls asleep immediately rather than after 1-2 hours!
