summer bucket list

We went to Okoboji (a resort town in Iowa) over the weekend for our twin nieces' 7th birthday party, and it was such a wonderful way to kick off the unofficial start to summer. Rooney was sick/teething most of the time, but we were still able to go out to eat, play at the playground, go on rides at the amusement park (we ended up getting a season pass because she had so much fun), eat treats from the candy store, etc. It got me thinking about all the things I want to do in the next few months while the weather is nice. No harm done if we don't get through this list by Sept. 23, but the first three are already done, so there's that!

  • Plant a garden
  • Eat a crepe at the Farmers' Market
  • Watch Roo ride the kiddie roller coaster at Arnold's Park
  • Visit a splash park or wading pool (what's the best one in Des Moines for a cautious 2-year-old?)
  • Ride the Heritage Carousel at Union Park
  • Go to the aquatic center with Roo's cousins
  • Eat ice cream at Snookies Malt Shop (never been!)
  • Spend a week boating and relaxing in Okoboji
  • Go to the Sugar Shack
  • Visit the sno cone trailer
  • Eat buttered sweet corn at the Adel Sweet Corn Festival
  • Enjoy fruit and veggies straight from the garden
  • Take Rooney to the Iowa State Fair and ride down the big slide
  • Family bike ride across the High Trestle Trail bridge
  • Draw with sidewalk chalk on our driveway
  • Finally make that rhubarb slush recipe

Many of these things we have never done...and that needs to change! Let's do it, summer!
