summer bucket list

Memorial Day felt like the unofficial start of summer. Our kids are out of school and very much enjoying staying up late, sleeping in and eating junk food for breakfast (Finch). We are so thankful for another year with our summer nanny and are currently taking applications for next year :)

It’s crazy to think I’ve been making summer bucket lists since 2014, and even harder to believe we only have eight summers left with Rooney … she’s officially a middle schooler! I’m dreaming up lots of fun family outings — some of our favorites and some new things we have never done.

2023 SUMMER BUCKET LIST

  • Tour the Iowa State Capitol building (my kids have been wanting to do this for years!)

  • Take a family photo for our time capsule

  • Swim at Cascade Falls Aquatic Center

  • Fruit picking

  • Eat a corn dog at an Iowa Cubs game

  • Adventureland (I’m gonna ride the Phoenix this year!)

  • River tubing (fingers crossed the river is high enough!)

  • Visit the sunflower fields

  • Ride the Scenic Valley Trail railway

  • Barrett Boesen Park Natural Playscape

  • Walk to Caffrey’s Sports Pub

  • Bike or walk to Tacos & Tortas

  • Bike to Tropical Smoothie Café

  • Bike to work

  • Bike to the library

  • Bike to the ice cream shop

  • Bike to Tropical Sno

  • Bike or walk to Starbucks

  • Overnight camps for the kids

  • Des Moines Arts Festival

  • Summer trips to Okoboji, Chicago, Wisconsin Dells and Colorado
