2021 recap

It is always amazing to me how much can be accomplished in just one year. I shared a lot of our 2021 highlights along the way, but I like having a yearly recap all in one place — they’re really fun to look back on!

JANUARY

  • Celebrated New Year’s in Okoboji

  • Trip to IKEA for a new couch & date night in Kansas City

  • Rooney took a children’s Bible class at our church and got a new Bible

  • Snow tubing!

FEBRUARY

  • Started parenting enrichment therapy — which I cannot recommend more

  • Eric and Rooney went on a Daddy Daughter Date Night

  • I took the House of Colour style personality class

  • Finch lost his first tooth!

  • Rooney’s online 9th birthday party

MARCH

APRIL

  • Celebrated Easter in Okoboji

  • Eric and I got our first COVID vaccines

  • Refinanced our mortgage (again)

  • Family photos with spring blooms

  • Great Wolf Lodge with nana and cousins

  • New roof installed on our house

MAY

  • Rooney played in her first soccer game

  • Eric and the kids had their House of Colour color analyses

  • Tulip Time in Pella with my BFF Blake

  • Finch graduated from TK

  • MS Walk with family and friends in Lake Mills

  • Eric and I were fully vaccinated

  • We had all our interior doors painted black

  • Spent Memorial Day weekend and celebrated Finch’s birthday in Okoboji (with an unfortunate carbon monoxide exposure/emergency)

  • Finch rode his first big roller coaster

JUNE

  • Rooney finished third grade

  • The kids loved their summer nanny

  • Lots of trampoline & family bike ride fun

  • Finch turned 6 and we celebrated with a friend party

  • We took a road trip to South Dakota

  • Eric started refinishing our deck with his dad on Father’s Day weekend

  • The kids took swimming lessons and basically lived at the pool

  • Rooney tried a hip hop dance class for the first time and loved it

  • Eric biked 206 miles in one day (his favorite day of the year)

  • We took our annual time capsule family photo

JULY

  • We spent the Fourth of July in Okoboji

  • The kids went to summer camp for two nights

  • Vacation Bible School

  • Watched the Summer Olympics

AUGUST

  • Rooney went off the high dive for the first time

  • Summer vacation in Okoboji

  • Had solar panels installed on our house

  • Went to the Iowa State Fair (& Finch got stung by a wasp … twice)

  • Discovered Finch is allergic to cats

  • Went camping

  • Finch started kindergarten and Rooney started fourth grade

  • Rooney played fall softball & loved pitching

SEPTEMBER

  • Fun day at Adventureland

  • Rooney got her ears pierced

  • Birthday/anniversary trip to Minneapolis — my first concert (Needtobreathe) since COVID

  • I turned 38

OCTOBER

  • Jester Park weekend with Eric’s family

  • Rooney started hip hop class again

  • Eric and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary with a biking day downtown

  • We took fall family photos

  • Rooney tried basketball (wasn’t a fan)

  • Rooney and I got to see the USWNT play in Kansas City & Minneapolis!

  • I took the kids to Center Grove Orchard

  • Mario Bros. family Halloween costumes

NOVEMBER

  • The kids got vaccinated for COVID

  • Rooney started volleyball

  • Eric took Finch to his first Hawkeye football game!

DECEMBER

  • Eric and I had our annual family meeting

  • Christmas parties with friends and family

  • Rooney got pink zebra carpet in her bedroom

What a wonderful year — here’s to hoping 2022 is just as great!
