  • I found out on Tuesday that I have a bladder infection. This is likely what caused my preterm contractions over the weekend. As much as I would like to avoid antibiotics, it's a relief to have a probable cause and get my restrictions cleared. The bacteria that caused my infection was group B strep, so I will need to have antibiotics at delivery as well. I tested positive for group B strep with Rooney (the routine test is at 35-37 weeks) and was hoping to avoid it this time, but...well...I am learning that I don't have any control! :-)
  • I passed my glucose test! Phew! Eric wasn't able to come with me for the test because Rooney wasn't feeling well, which was the first appointment he's ever missed. I am really thankful that my clinic hands out the glucola drink ahead of time so I didn't have to sit there for the whole hour, and that it's only 5 oz. I did ask my clinic about alternative testing options, but they do not offer any. If I would have declined the test, I would have had to transfer clinics, which was not something I was willing to do. I love my midwives so much! I was more nervous for the test this pregnancy, because things seem to be going so differently this time around, and I also had an afternoon appointment and I was worried that perhaps anything else I ate that day that contained sugar would affect my results. But they said I passed with flying colors! Yay!
  • How far along: 28 weeks
  • Baby's size: Rutabaga (and he's head down!)
  • Total weight gain: 5.5 pounds (packing it on now!)
    • My belly was measuring correctly at my last appointment! Yay! I was measuring one week small a month ago, so I was really glad to hear that. I've definitely seen an increase in my appetite!
  • Baby's heart rate: 150 bpm
  • Maternity clothes: Check out this post!
  • Gender: Boy
  • Baby names: One of the names I really like for a boy that we're not using is Abel. So cute, huh? Since we're not sharing his name publicly before he comes, maybe I'll share a runner-up here each week :-)
  • Movement: He is very active! Now that I'm 28 weeks, I think I'm supposed to start counting kicks.
  • Symptoms: Leg cramps, back ache
  • Sleep: I sleep on my side with a pillow between my legs and under my belly. I get about five good hours of sleep a night, and then I wake up and can't seem to go back to sleep. So I just lay in bed on my phone and shop on Schoola or browse Instagram for a few hours before I have to get up for work.
  • What I miss: Being able to roll over easily in bed, not being winded after climbing stairs
  • Cravings: Fruity Pebbles, Fruit Loops, chicken strips, Twisted Cheetos (super healthy, huh?!)
  • Nursery update: The crib and dresser have been painted! They look amazing. You can see a before and after on Instagram. Now we actually need to focus on our basement (painting and flooring) so we can get the guest bed out of the nursery.
  • Mommy thoughts:
    • I am definitely becoming more clumsy as my belly gets bigger! I keep running into walls :/
    • This pregnancy has been such a roller coaster of emotions! It seems like we get bad news one week (abnormal placenta, preterm contractions) and good news the next (passing tests, good growth, cause for contractions). I'm happy to make it to 28 weeks!
