family photo time capsule 2023

Every year we take a family picture in front of this wall at our church. When Eric and I snapped the first one in 2010 using a point-and-shoot camera propped on the back of our Jeep for our Christmas card (see below), we had no intention of making this a yearly thing. Then we found ourselves there a year and a half later shortly after Rooney was born, and the rest is history. We now have 13 photos in our collection, and it's a neat way to see how our family has changed over the years.

When I look at this year's photo, here's what I see:

  • Rooney (11): obsessed with Taylor Swift, sharing my shoes, officially a middle schooler

  • Kelsey: turns 40 in a few months, is on track to read 52 books this year, can often be found at Crumbl

  • Eric: biked 200 miles in one day, serves on two boards of directors, looks so cute in his new glasses

  • Finch (8): earned his orange belt in taekwondo, graduated vision therapy, is the reason for our gray hairs and also our deepest belly laughs

A look back at the other 12 photos in our collection:

Man, time goes fast. I highly recommend having a family photo tradition. Start now! It’s not too late!
