Finch is 8!

My favorite boy is my favorite number! He turned 8 in Chicago (separate post about our trip coming soon!), but before we left he woke up to streamers on his bedroom doorway and opened his presents: reusable water balloons, football gloves and an LA Chargers jersey.

A few days after we got home from Chicago, we had a bowling and arcade birthday party with seven of his school buddies. His one request was a cake with his name on it, which I offered to make, but he wanted to “leave it to the professionals” — ha! — or Andrew Fuller (our favorite show to watch together is “Is It Cake?”, and Andrew is from Des Moines!). We ended up going with a grocery store Minecraft cake that I completely forgot to get a photo of before we cut into it.

We also had a family party for him on Memorial Day Weekend, and with his birthday money he bought basketball cards.

FINCH IS …

Finch has a big heart, always needs a Band-Aid, could live on pizza and applesauce, can do 20 pushups, loves a good sunset, and is a human ray of sunshine.

He is tall for his age (4’8”), can speak with Scottish and Australian accents, has gotten eight strikes in a row on Nintendo Switch Sports bowling, laughs hysterically at “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” and is part of the FBI (a group of friends at school with first names with those initials).

In the past year he played baseball, taekwondo and Bricks 4 Kidz (a LEGO club at school that was probably his favorite thing he’s ever done). This fall he wants to try flag football and basketball!

He decided he was an LA Chargers fan the week they played Eric’s team, which I don’t think was a coincidence. They do have a cool logo, which may have been a factor.

He can sense when I am stressed and will offer me a back massage or to help me out. He has never met a stranger and loves to talk to new people. When he grows up he wants to be a comic book illustrator or a football legend.

INTERVIEW

And now for one of my favorite birthday traditions! He set up two chairs with a side table and plant between them for us to sit and do his birthday interview. How cute is that? He has a knack for show business …
